I love skiing!!!!

13 Nov

Skiing makes me feel free as a bird, in control of my speed and I can travel to wherever i want ( within reason!!)…

From being a kid my dad shared his passion with the rest of the Johnson’s and created a couple of speed demons on the slopes!!!

I started skiing when I was about 8 and we have been lucky enough as a family to travel “all over the shop” (Father quote) and spend loads of brill holidays together.. our little ‘Brian the Snail’ (Mum) comes too and tries her best, and deep down, she likes it ūüėõ haha.

In the last couple of years my Dad became a qualified ski instructor and has traveled to Italy teaching British school kids!  A life time ambition complete! Nice one daddd Xxx

We’re going to Austria again soon! It’s Gaz’s 4th ski holiday n he’s really good too!

Here’s a couple of videos of us skiing. ¬†Hope you like..

(I am wearing lime green pants with a purple coat)

Here is a video of Gaz of his second time skiing.  He is wearing red trousers and a yellowy green coat.

I’m considering wearing bells on the slope this year ¬†to make people move out-of-the-way!! ¬†Like my own beeper on a car haha..

I always wait for a clear slope so no one will get hurt!! And follow or get directions off family members on which direction to head. ¬†We usually ski the mountain in sections so it’s easy for my eyes!

I think because I could ski before Stargardts it’s made it easy as I literally just take the rough with the smooth on the slopes and seem to be able to absorb any bumps in the terrain..

….always wear a helmet!!

Show time!

13 Nov

Hi y’all!
I’m quite excited about Friday, I have quite a big show coming up.. It’s related to the Olympics so I am learning the Shirley Bassey song GOLDfingerr.. Convenient¬†aye? ¬†woop ha

I’m¬†gonna¬†try and¬†post a vid of my practise at my mums house later.

I just purchased my first Xmas presents today!!!! Also for my mum ahhhh nicey nicey woop.

Got a new phone too.¬† My other one landed in a cup of tea a few days ago, so I went for the Samsung Galaxy Note… I hadn’t used my old mobile for so long as the text was far too small¬† and I¬†could only pick out certain words from it, such as¬†‘Hi’¬†etc…¬†So I have been having¬†my friends to message¬†me on my iPad.. But wahho feel like a new women with this phone ha! all technical etc…. The text is pretty large .. It could be larger but my friend is looking for an approach enlarge it¬†even more.

The only difficulty is the home page. The clock is big, but icons such as settings, camera, gallery bla bla are tiny! I know where the basics are, but I may need to whack my magnifier out to have a good look and play around.

Anyway I’ll do a blog on my phone once I’ve finished learning this song!

Cooking grandads birthday tea later!

18 Jul

I love a Challenge. It’s going to be either lamb chops or roast chicken “00000hh”

I’ll upload pics of how I get on later… Ha last time I tried to cook a roast dinner for Gaz, I had the oven set on just the grill and not oven for like an hour, haha oooops….!:)

.. Last night was great! I prepared all the veg etc and set the table and then Gaz took over when he got in from work (I watched kind of, and was his assistant really).

Gaz is a brill chef and can make anything!!! I’m well cautious with cooking as I don’t want anything to go wrong/kill someone with food poisoning haha

Painting, What Do You Think?!

10 Jul

When I paint¬†I feel I get emerged into it, almost as if everything else switches off, and I am literally just thinking of colour, textures, balancing brights and dulls etc xxxxx…

I always think though as I am registered blind sometimes I would like a well sighted person to experience what we experience daily, through my paintings. Thats confusion and uncertainty, so I abstract my paintings so much so that sometimes you can’t tell what it is. I have even written hidden¬†words onto the canvas and to see if anybody spots them !!! (how deep) but I love it when people look confused and ask questions as this is what it’s like for us everyday!!!!!

Has anyone heard of art therapy???

I hadn’t but realised how good art was years ago and was telling all of my friends if their boyfriends are bad to them… then just whack out a canvas and throw that paint right¬†on hahah!!

It’s so true on a serious note though! – Grab a paintbrush and some paints and go for it, and let me know how you feel!! Literally get some exciting colors and go for it!

I love making bold colours and objects and think I hope if a blind person walked into the room they’d get that straight away just by how vague it is and probably a normal guy would think what’s that!!!!

My paintings I’m working on at the mo are called vague florals actually! you can see them at www.facebook.com/KayleyRoseArtist

Anyway I’ve written so much I haven’t written this much stuff since college! So night!X”

Starting to find difficulty and vision loss in the early years

9 Jul

Around the age of eight I discovered problems with my eyes but instead of blindness I had the opposite problem. I could see double.. I had corrective surgery..
After two operations this problem was sorted… I wore glasses with a prism and after a couple of years this problem was sorted. ¬†I vividly remember my consultant saying when I was older I’d have big problems with my eyes, but at the time¬†I¬†literally cast it aside..

I went through high school and gave up wearing¬†glasses as I thought it “wasn’t cool” if only geek-sheek¬†was around in the “noughties” ha!!! ¬†I began really struggling reading the white/chalk board aged 13/14.¬† I didn’t see it as a problem, but realised my work was slacking and at parents evening I told all my teachers I would move to the front of the class as I felt I wasn’t paying enough attention etc..
Having to change my learning styles:
I ended up walking right to the front of the class all the time and stood scribbling away at my books copying from the board… (thinking back now everything clicks into place)… It ended up my class mates would either read out from the board or I would try my best to copy….

My french teacher cast me off as a “complete failure”.. ¬†I had told my mum I couldn’t see the board – never mind try and read what was written in a different language!!

I was fifteen now and was really finding who I was, just a smiley, hair straightening (at the time) fun-loving girl, happy-go-lucky, hard working girl, who loved sports, netball, skiing , bike riding, badminton, music etc and would get nine out of fifty on a history test ha!  Not the brightest academic, but showed a flare in all creative and sports subjects !!

I would literally talk to anybody and say hello to anybody intact I’d always smile at everyone who walked past and lift my shoulders up for some reason!i thought to myself if they didn’t smile back at me o well! Smile at the next person!

I’d worked hard for my¬†GCSEs¬†and just passed them all.. I was not academic but always tried my best.. I’d spend hours colouring over my work to make it look pretty – just¬†a shame about the content haha!!! My mum said all she could hear “was our Kay up stairs banging on the floor with that bloody blush art”

First steps into higher/further education.
I started college September 2004 … ¬†My first recollection of something being wrong was my friends would shout me in the corridor and¬†i¬†had no idea who¬†said it,¬†I would often have to¬†ask “who is it”.¬† I could hear them and make out there was someone there, but I couldn’t make out who it was..they’d just laugh thinking I was joking .. Inside I’d be thinking I really can’t see you!!

I went to the library and a friend¬†shouted me I asked “who’s that” and my friend said “what do you mean ‘who’s that?!'”, then we just carried on our day as usual and just forgot about these things.¬† Later that day I nipped to the staff room to speak to my form tutor quickly and as she opened the door I remember being so shocked as it was as though her face disappeared In front of my eyes .I could see her arms and above her but her nose and eyes just went missing … I think she thought I had seen a ghost .lol

I went home and told my mum but (wrongly) we just cast it aside and continued our busy lives….

To be continued.

Setting the scene – the Early Years

9 Jul

On the 22.08.88, I was born..  Kayley Louise Johnson they named me !
My dad described me as a gorilla with big hands and my mum said I looked like a little rosebud!  From then on I answered to the name Kayley Rose!

I had a fantastic childhood, we lived in a village called burtonwood, warrington, cheshire and have the best memories. I have a brother Ross who is two years younger than me (he has fine eyesight- thankgod – lol and has turned out into a fine, halairious, loving, alcoholic university, josie loving specimen!)

We got up to lots of fun as kids.. We loved the outdoors and had a caravan in the Lakes we went to every weekend, had a curry on a Friday whislt my dad went for a swift half in the pub my mum would put the curry in the oven and me and ross would put southpark on tv and wait to hear “you killed kenny you *******” if we were lucky!! Haha

We went on many holidays, I ski’d from the age I was 8 and love general outdoorsy creative stuff.

I was in the school band and played the horn from age ten and played upto grade six, performed a the royal festival hall and toured around Spain ettttc.

I loved painting, dancing singing just general wannabe spice girl , slightly crazy but a hard worker.. Not the brainiest but loving and always a giver !

Anyway just setting the scene!
